Basic 3 Point Lighting

January 22nd, 2011 No comments

By Andrew Whitehurst – Before we begin looking at an example let’s consider what the function of lighting is. Lighting can be used to add mood and drama to a shot, but it’s overriding function is to describe 3D objects onto a 2D area, be that a computer monitor, a print out or a cinema screen. To put it another way, the light is used to “model” the objects so that on a flat surface we can tell what shape they are, and how one object relates to another.

I met Chantal and Denis through work many years ago. They are wonderful people and I was honored when they chose me to shoot their wedding. Chantal says she’s a big fan of my photography. So she trusted my work and that made the whole experience really wonderful.

Why I Love Geocaching

May 9th, 2010 3 comments

For those who don’t know what geocaching is, you should definitely check it out at geocaching.com. One of the reasons I enjoy it so much besides getting out for fresh air, is that it brings me to locations I’ve never been before. I get to see things I never noticed before even in my own city. Sometimes I’ll be sitting on the couch trying to figure out what do to enjoy a nice sunny day. Well geocaching is the perfect hobby to get you out of the house and go for a walk.

Video of our Punta Cana Vacation

April 21st, 2010 1 comment

I just spent a week at the Catalonia Bavaro Resort in Punta Cana, Republic Dominican. We were a group of 6 and we all had a GREAT time. It was a great opportunity for me to try the video feature on my Canon 5d Mark II. I used iMovie ‘09 to edit the montage. It’s a great software and very easy to use. It took a long time to put together but with time and experience I think the editing will become easier.

Punta Cana April 2010

I just got back from a very nice vacation in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We stayed at the Catalonia Bavaro resort. I had every intention to go on excursions and take shots outside the resort, but once I got there I turned into relaxation mode and it just didn’t happen. That didn’t stop me from taking a few photos. It was a really nice resort and I would recommend it to anyone. Me and my wife did go for a long walk outside the resort along the beach. We saw a small town, a few locals and fishermen.
