Do-It-Yourself Ring Flash

February 25th, 2010 5 comments

by Patrick Arseneau - The use of a ring flash can be effective when you to want to reduce the hard background shadow of your subjects. When using a regular flash mounted on your camera, the hard shadow is inevitable unless you bounce the light from a wall or ceiling. The ring flash shoots light through a diffuser mounted around the lens. This softens the shadow behind the subject.

What is ISO?

February 5th, 2010 No comments

by Darren RowseIn traditional (film) photography ISO (or ASA) was the indication of how sensitive a film was to light. It was measured in numbers (you’ve probably seen them on films – 100, 200, 400, 800 etc). The lower the number the lower the sensitivity of the film and the finer the grain in the shots you’re taking.

Canon 5D Mark II

February 4th, 2010 4 comments

by Patrick Arseneau – I’m finally making the jump to a full frame DSLR. I just ordered the Canon 5D Mark II. Chateau a Pape Destroyed

February 1st, 2010 No comments

The community of Moncton lost a historic architecture this past weekend. The century old building which housed a 4 generation family owned restaurant “Le Chateau a Pape” went up in flames in the early hours of Saturday morning. An RCMP officer spotted smoke coming out of the kitchen window while getting ready to leave at the end of his shift. Two hours later firefighters lost the battle to save the structure and could only try to contain the fire from areal towers. This is a sad day for the community and I wish the Gosselin family a good recovery.
